Info about the strike on Friday, March 5

Both the mass demonstrations organised by the class-oriented forces on Thursday afternoon in 62 cities as well the 24-hour strike organised by PAME on Friday March 5 were held with great success.

The immediate mobilisation of the class oriented forces has been a strong response to the announcement of the new reactionary measures that impose severe cuts and launch a sweeping attack on the people’s income.

24-hour general strike in Greece

Capitalists must pay for the crisis!

The new 24-hour strike held on February 24th against the plans of the social-democrat government of PASOK to place the burdens of the capitalist crisis on the shoulders of the workers was a great success.

Millions of workers resisted to the intimidation by the capital’s parties (the social democrat PASOK, the conservative ND, and the extreme-right, racist LAOS) which argue that workers must submit in order to “rescue the country from bankruptcy”. The “patriotism” of these political forces has only one goal: to maintain and expand the profit making of the capital at the expense of the workers’ gains by means of raising the retirement ages, cutting salaries and pensions, further dismantling of the social-security system, deteriorating the working relations and increasing the anti-people taxes.

10th Congress of the Communist Youth of Greece

The 10th Congress of the Communist Youth of Greece will be held onthe 7th, 8thand 9thofMay under the slogan: “Communism is the youth of the world. KNE is our organization”.The Congress will conclude on the 9th of May followed by a big event dedicated to the 65 years since the Antifascist Victory of the Peoples.

KNE is looking forward to its 10th Congress with revolutionary optimism. This optimism is a result of many positive steps that we have taken and the upturn of the Organization in these four years since our 9th Congress. During this period, we have become stronger, we have matured even more, both ideologically and politically, we have reinforced our revolutionary – communist characteristics, we played a significant role in the build-up of struggles for the rights of the new generation. KNE contributed in serious political struggles on KKE’s side.

The central subject of the 10th Congress is the strengthening of KNE; we aim for a stronger KNE. We strive to be able to fight alongside the Communist Party of Greece even more effectively, under any circumstances, and commit more young people to the prospect of socialism-communism. KNE wants to contribute in the preparation of young communists, of the new members of KKE. It wants to play a leading role in the reinforcement of the youth movement on an antimonopoly and anticapitalist basis. KNE wants to meet it's obligationsin the struggle of the ideas, in the encounter with the bourgeoisie ideology and opportunism.  Read More

Powerful KKE, for strong people

COMMUNIST YOUTH OF GREECE SALUTES KSM

The CC of the Communist Youth of Greece salutes the positive development in the struggle of Communist Youth Union of Czech Republic (KSM). The judgement of the Supreme Administrative Court of Czech Republic, which cancelled the decision of the First Instance Court on the ban of KSM and sent the case back to the Municipal Court of Prague, is a step forward in the continuous and persistent struggle of KSM for the end of its ban. This ban has been imposed by the Czech government because KSM declares the collective ownership of the means of production as a programmatic goal.

This development is the result, first of all, of the struggle of KSM and Czech youth as well as of the international anti-imperialist movement.

Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) supported KSM from the very first moment through several protests in the Czech embassy in Athens and initiatives of solidarity with KSM. Along with other communist and anti-imperialist youth organizations it struggled in order the ban of KSM to become an international issue and it contributed to the international youth action against this unacceptable decision of Czech government.

Despite this positive development, the international communist and anti-imperialist movement should remain in a state of vigilance and readiness. The attack of imperialism, European Union and their political forces against the communist ideology and action will get more and more intense as long as the irreconcilable contradictions capitalism reveal and the struggle of socialism appears as the only alternative and perspective for the people’s and youth’s needs. This anticommunist attack, which targets especially at the consciousness of young people, should meet the resolute response of the communist and anti-imperialist youth organisations at national and international level.

KNE declares that it will strengthen its action against anticommunism, its support and solidarity with KSM and all forces that are in the target of the anticommunist campaign. It will struggle for the end of the ban of KSM as well as of other persecutions and anticommunist measures

In Greece 27 lists of political parties and organisations took part in the EP lections on 7th June. KKE gathered 428,283 votes, 8.35% and elected 2 members of the European Parliament (in this term the MEPs of Greece have been reduced to 22 from 24 previously).

A high abstention rate, approximately by 47%, was recorded in these elections, leading to a reduction of the votes of all parties comparing to the results of parliamentary elections in 2007 and the EP elections in 2004.

On 8th June the CC held a session in order to elaborate a first assessment on the results of the EP elections on 7th June 2009. The CC summed up its initial conclusions and promoted the process of discussion within the party and general with friends and supporters of the Party as well as with people who cooperate and struggle along with the Party.

The CC extended militant greetings to the members of the Party and KNE, the friends and supporters of the Party, the people cooperating with KKE who worked hard and struggled along with the communists for the battle of the EP elections and notes that: “the multifaceted political and mass activity of the Party developed under particularly hard and complicated conditions that have to do with the economic crisis and the system’s elaborated strategy for the management of the people’s indignation; it constitutes a significant basis and offers new positive experiences”.

Furthermore the CC estimates that: “to a great extent these elections approach the character of the battle of the parliamentary elections. It has been the most complicated and hard EP elections battle over the last 25 years; it took place under the conditions of the contradictory impact of the economic capitalist crisis on the consciousness and the stance of the working people. The reliable yardstick for this battle is the result of the parliamentary elections in 2007 and to a lesser extent the results of the EP elections in 2004 as they were held after the national elections and under different political conditions”.

Press Conference on the joint statement of 21 Communist and Workers’ Parties from EU countries on the EP Elections

On Monday, 11th May 2009, Aleka Papariga the general secretary of the CC of KKE gave a press conference on the joint statement of 21 Communist and Workers’ Parties from EU countries on the EP elections.

Gyula Thürmer, president of the Hungarian Communist Workers’ Party and Carmelo Suárez general secretary of the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain also took part in the press conference.

Aleka Papariga in her opening remarks underscored:

“As you already know, KKE maintains multifaceted international cooperation at all levels with Communist and Workers’ Parties irrespective from any ideological, political differences that may exist, which has constituted a good starting point for the broader rallying of anti-imperialist forces. The international meetings which have been established since several years, have advanced regarding the discussion and exchange of views; they are characterised by the effort, apart from the discussion of the issues we face every day, to highlight shared or different positions on issues of strategic importance as well as theoretical questions.

At the same time, the cooperation at regional level, in each continent or among neighboring areas develops too.

A reply from the old times ...

«If you tremble with indignation about any injustice, you are my comrade (...) True rebels don't wear hoods, for one more reason: During the revolution, people should be able to recognize the revolution’s avant-guard in their faces. Peoples don’t take pride in associating with hooded persons.»
